CD 25 and step-daughter in hospital

31 08 2009

My step-daughter went in to hospital today to have one of her fallopian tubes removed and have laser treatment on her cervix following an abnormal smear.

When she told me on Friday she was going in today we both had a good cry and I tried to reassure her that she’d be able to conceive naturally one day and if all else fails she could still under go IVF. She doesn’t know about me and her Dad going for IVF soon (well neither I nor DH have told her..maybe DH’s mum will have).

So she’s to go to a fertility clinic in 6 weeks time to discuss her options but she was told by the consultant on Friday that if she wants to have kids in the future she’d better not leave it too late and recommended she do it within the next 2-3 years…she’s only 23 this year!

I was joking with DH that he might end up coming to see his son/daughter and his grandson/grandaughter in the hospital at the same time…he wasn’t pleased!! :-)

AF is definitely on the way, I’m hoping she holds out for another day or 2 so the clinic can’t make me wait another month. I know they said I was to phone when AF showed in September but I’m thinking if I phone on the 1st of September they’ll tell me to wait another month…we were told at our very first appointment at the clinic that they need to schedule the embryologists time and there was availablity for October….I know I’m stressing probably for nothing…deary me!! :-)

CD 23 and treated for scabbies!

31 08 2009

Isn’t there always something every month that you think “that could potentially stop me getting pregnant this month!”?

Well my DH was diagnosed with scabbies on Fri 28/09 and was told we’d both need to use the cream to treat it. So on Saturday night we covered ourselves in cream from head to toe and we’ve to do it again this Saturday the 05/09. The thing is, he’s had this since December but didn’t go to the docs until 3 weeks ago and it was first diagnosed as eczema and was using a steriod cream which obviously didn’t work. In the months prior to him going to the docs he’s tried Canesten (yes thrush cream!) and insect repellent…what a man!! Anyway, here’s hoping the rash disappears now and he did ask the doc about using this with our upcoming IVF and he said it’d be fine.

DH also stood on a rusty nail last week so needs to go back to docs for a Tetanus jag and a Hepatitis B jag…who knows what effect they’ll have on his little swimmers!! :-)

CD 22 and waiting on AF!

28 08 2009

It’s only CD22 and I’m stressing that AF will show up early.

She can’t…I’ve already had a visit this month and I’m expecting to start my IVF when she next shows up but it needs to be September. It should be round about the 6th of September but I’ve had a few twinges, starting on CD20. The earliest AF has showed up before has been CD27 so I’m hanging on to the hope that she’ll not come any quicker this month!

If she comes again in August I’m not sure whether my IVF will start or the clinic will make me wait until later in September…I’m stressing and I’ve not even started anything..oh deary me!! :-)

On the other hand I’m hoping that AF won’t show at all and I’ll be preggers so I won’t need to go through IVF but my friends dog jumped up on me on Wed, right where I think my womb is and it was painful for a good hour afterwards… so who knows!!

Anyways, I’ve got a count down on my phone (sad I know) and it’s showing 6 DAYS to AF (fingers crossed) x

Why a blog?

24 08 2009

I had always thought about having a blog but was finally inspired to do something about it by following Cathy’s blog “A Journey to Conception“. Cathy is from the USA and although I found it very useful, informative and comforting, I thought I should do one for us Scots!

So a big thank you to Cathy for sharing. This is going to be my story as I try to conceive! I’m going to post everything about how I feel, what’s happening etc about my infertility and my journey to conceiving my first child (it will happen one day of that I’m sure).

Please feel free to comment, it’d be good to know someone else is tagging along! :-)
